Tea at community center

What a blessing today was.  I talked to about 60 women today about Your world in a teacup.  Two other blessings before I reached there.  I discovered I had flat tire before I left, got other vehicle ready and then drove on snowy, icy roads with many accidents along the way and I arrived there safely.  Met some wonderful women at the tea as I always do.  It was so much fun to share tea and talk with the women.
God was present as always but wondered before I arrived there if I was to be going there but God showed me through all of the struggles along the way to keep the faith and keep my trust in Him.  I was listening to the radio on the way home and person was talking about stepping out in faith.  God will do the rest.  Thank you God for your presence today and for the new friends I met today.  They were beautiful people.
Enjoy your cup of tea this weekend and His word.  Spread His word with a cup of tea!

January is National Hot Tea Month

This article from TeaUsa.org

A Grateful Toast… “To Our Health!”
Recent research findings have reported that drinking black tea may improve the body’s defenses and quicken the response to bacteria and viruses – giving people more of a reason to brew themselves a hot cup of tea this January in celebration of National Hot Tea Month – and possibly ward off pesky germs.

The study, published in the May 13, 2003 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that participants who drank 20 ounces (the equivalent of x cups) of black tea per day produced five times the amount of certain germ-fighting immune cells as those who drank the same amount of coffee. Researchers predict that these findings suggest that tea drinkers may have a better chance of fighting off an infection than non-tea drinkers because of this increased immune response, though further research will be needed to confirm their predictions.

In addition to this research, volumes have been published about the potential health benefits of tea, which contains flavonoids, substances that may act as antioxidants to reduce oxidative damage in the body and help maintain healthy cells and tissues. A multitude of research studies point to drinking tea as a way to promote health and potentially reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease and certain types of cancer.

This body of credible research grows every day. Here are a few recent findings about the potential health benefits of tea:
  • New clinical research published in the October 2003 Journal of Nutrition found that consuming 30 oz. of black tea daily – the fluid equivalent of 2.5 cans of soda – reduced Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL, or “bad”) cholesterol levels by more than 10 percent in mildly hypercholesterolemic adult study participants.
  • According to a recent study published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, study participants who drank four cups of tea per day had significantly lower risk of death following a heart attack – a decrease of up to 44 percent.
  • A Dutch study published in the May 2002 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) found that the incidence of myocardial infarction or heart attack decreased by 43 percent in the study participants who drank more than three cups of black tea per day.
  • More good news on the protection of heavy smokers from oxidative damage by tea drinking was published in the October 2003 Journal of Nutrition. The clinical intervention study found that heavy smokers who consumed four servings per day of green tea had 31percent lower levels of 8-OHdG (a biomarker for oxidative damage to DNA) in white blood cells. Oxidative damage to DNA is one factor which increases cancer risk and the researches suggest that a significant reduction of DNA damage found with green tea drinking may help reduce cancer risk in smokers.
  • Another study, published in the July 2003 issue of Annals of Epidemiology, examining the protective nature of black tea against rectal cancer found that women who drank the equivalent of 2.5 cups of tea per day or more had a 60 percent drop in rectal cancer risk, as compared to women who drank less than 1.2 cups of tea per day.
“Research continually illustrates the potential for flavonoid-rich tea to contribute to healthful dietary patterns in a significant way,” said Jeffrey Blumberg, PhD, Professor, Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and Chief, Antioxidants Research Laboratory, Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, Boston.

“Tea is an ideal beverage -- delicious, refreshing, soothing and healthful,” said Joe Simrany, president of the Tea Council of the USA. “This January, for National Hot Tea Month, we can all feel extra good about lifting a tea-filled glass and toasting to our health.”

My tea on Thursday

It was another blessed day for me as I met some new friends for tea at an assisted living in Woodbury, MN on Thursday.  They were all so delightful and so inspiring.  I had one woman who was so helpful and so precious.  I related to her as she told me she had a daughter whose name was Cindy.  She wanted to do whatever she could to help me.  We had two men attend.  One's name was Jerome and he did not like tea but wanted to play Tea Bingo.  He made sure he put his cup upside down on saucer so I would not serve him tea.  I had two men who attended.  I just so enjoy to see both men and women come to enjoy tea, tea bingo and some bits of information on tea.  I always share a devotion with them and pray that in some way it will touch their hearts and know they are special .
I shared two teas.  One was a green and white tea called Cherry Margarita.  Enjoyed by all.  The other was Lemon Chiffon Pie , which is a Rooibos tea.   It made the room smell so good!
I shared some Strawberry with Cream scones shaped like hearts with some strawberry jam.  They were yummy.  I wish I would have had some teas there for purchase but was not prepared for that and if I had they would have been purchased.  I will bring some next time just in case they ask or want.
My main purpose tho is to share tea and make new friends over tea.
I am thankful for the assisted living homes that have wanted me to share tea with their residents.  It is a blessing to me and pray that it is a blessing to them.
Thanking God each day and for the new people  He brings into my life over tea.
Have a blessed weekend!

January Tea

What a blessing today was.  I got to share Orchid Berry, a Green and White Tea Blend , with an assisted living today.  It was so much fun to see the women enjoy the tea and the milk chocolate we had with our tea.  It was fun to see their smiles and laughter as we read Miss Spider's Tea Party and A Tiny Tea.  We talked about the different types of tea, had a devotion and played Tea Bingo.  After each tea I have I  know it is where God wants me..  I need to trust Him.  I get nervous a bit before but He always shows me when I first walk in to a new place  there is a peace and He lets me know He is present.  I am so blessed to be on this journey and meet such beautiful womenand some men too.  I even get to share God's word and pray with them!  It is also fun to hear them talk about it and want me back.  I am going to be doing an ice tea probably in August there.  Hard to think about right now as it is cold here in Minnesota and can only think hot tea right now  but know it will be fun to plan ahead and excited about it.  Can't wait to see them all again real soon.

If you are interested in some tea from Tealightful Treasures check out my website at www.tealightfultreasures.net/tea    The Orchid Berry is one of the teas in the gift pack All Things Going Green.
Enjoy your tea this day and have a blessed evening in His Word.

Tea & Chocolate Tasting!

Did You Know?

Pairing tea with a small amount of good quality chocolate can be a fun and safe way to

help people enjoy an indulgence without breaking their weight loss goals!

Tea & Chocolate Tasting Guidelines:

As a rule, green and herbal teas go well with white or milk chocolate. Any tea that takes milk

(such as English Morning) would also pair nicely with milk chocolate. Black flavored teas pair

well with plain semisweet or bittersweet chocolate. Try using different percentages of dark chocolate

for tasting. The higher the percentage of cacao, the less sweet the chocolate

will be. Try pairing a less sweet chocolate with a tea that has some natural sweetness.

Example: Taste 72% dark chocolate with Raspberry Royal Rooibos.

When choosing tea and chocolate think about pairing subtle flavor profiles.

Example: Oolong Orange Blossom pairs nicely with orange flavored dark chocolate.

Tasting Order:

Sip Tea (without sugar!)

Taste Chocolate

Sip Tea Again!

Observe how the chocolate actually sweetens their palette making

the tea taste sweet even without sugar! This is a great concept for indulging without

the guilt! Tealightful Treasures Dessert Teas also make a great substitute for dessert

even without chocolate!

Drink This Instead Of That!

Did You Know?

Evidence has shown that Americans get 20% of their daily caloric intake from beverages.

There is also evidence that cutting back on sugary drinks or replacing them with unsweetened

tea may help with weight control and lower the risk of diabetes.

Green tea is an excellent choice for children and adults for many reasons:

1. It’s low in caffeine - about 20 mg. for a oz. cup!

2. It’s high in antioxidants!

3. It contains about 436 mg. of vitamin C per cup!

4. Research suggests that it may increase metabolism

Antioxidants and Vitamin C

Green tea has a high content of vitamins and minerals. It contains about the same amount

of vitamin C as a lemon, approximately 436 mg. Black tea contains only 239 mg. of vitamin

C. Green tea also contains several B vitamins, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid and pantothenic

acid. It also contains magnesium, potassium and manganese. Last but not least green tea

is high in fluoride. A cup provides approximately 0.1 mg. of fluoride, which is higher than a

cup of fluorinated water!

January is National Hot Tea MOnth!

New York, NY, January 1, 2009 - January is National Hot Tea Month and is also the height of the dreaded “cold and flu season”. The CDC estimates that there will be more than 200,000 Americans affected by the cold and flu this year, which leads to missing work, school and even social gatherings. So what can one do to avoid the cold and flu?

The CDC strongly recommends an annual flu vaccine as the best way to reduce the chances that you will get the flu. In addition, drinking hot tea may also help you stay healthy during the cold and flu season.

Published research from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University indicates that theanine, an ingredient found naturally in tea, supports the immune system. A cup of tea contains an average of 20- 25 mg of theanine. Drinking tea throughout the day may strengthen the immune system which is something important to do during the cold and flu season.

Drinking five cups of Black Tea a day for two to four weeks boosted the body’s immune defense system by four times, according to the results of a human clinical trial. According to this study, the data suggests that drinking Black Tea boost’s the body’s natural resistance to infection.1

Tea also contains flavonoids, which are naturally occurring compounds known for their antioxidant properties. Antioxidants work to neutralize free radicals, which scientists believe damage elements in the body, such as genetic material and lipids, and contribute to many chronic diseases.

The CDC states that healthy adults have a 30% chance of contracting the flu even with an annual flu vaccination, and the vaccine may be somewhat less effective for children and the elderly. And while drinking tea may not keep you from getting sick this season, it can help your odds of staying healthy.

So why not do something good for your body while having a hot beverage…help stay healthy this cold and flu season and drink your tea every day! For more information about the role of tea in a healthy diet and lifestyle, please visit www.TeaUSA.org.
